The Frisch Family Holocaust Memorial Gallery is the first American venue to present Fighting Antisemitism: From Dreyfus to Today, a traveling exhibition from London’s Wiener Holocaust Library.

This exhibit traces more than a century of organized resistance to antisemitism, from the Dreyfus Affair* in 1890s France through twentieth century Britain and Germany, discovered in pamphlets, posters, newspapers and photographs. What emerges is not a passive history of hatred, but an active record of the people and organizations who fought back: through legal argument, public exposure, the publication of evidence, the infiltration of extremist networks, and direct confrontation in the streets.

Jacksonville’s exhibition extends this story with a purpose-built extension gallery, developed in partnership with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), that carries that resistance across the Atlantic and into the present. Showcasing real-time data from the ADL’s Audit of Antisemitic Incidents, now in its 46th year, visitors move from archival history directly into news that is actively being written.

*The Dreyfus Affair was a political scandal in France from 1894 to 1906. It began when Captain Alfred Dreyfus, a Jewish military officer, was falsely accused and convicted of treason for giving secrets to Germany. The case deeply split the country and exposed severe antisemitism.

Docents Needed

We are offering training  on TUESDAY, JANUARY 21, 10am-12PM, for anyone who would like to volunteer as a docent, serving both as a greeter and guide to our new exhibit, Histories in Hand. Docents are needed at times the gallery is open to the public, and scheduling is flexible to fit your availability.
